There are many, and not many, reasons why - the most recent reason is that I am back in the classroom. So lovely, but work is having an impact on the amount of time I have for woolly makes and sewing. My must-make-this-now list is yet to catch up with this reduction in hours.<br />
<br />
But, following nicely from my previously shown make, I have a shawl made from the same dreamy Cosmic Strings yarn<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-W7AmT-W-4Aw/W7X69Q4FYLI/AAAAAAAAEr8/9RlIzrhU1F0RG6AYwrPbp99w348Pm-wqQCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-W7AmT-W-4Aw/W7X69Q4FYLI/AAAAAAAAEr8/9RlIzrhU1F0RG6AYwrPbp99w348Pm-wqQCKgBGAs/s400/image.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
Such a beautifully soft yarn, I was so looking forward to seeing this colour knit up. The colourway is foxglove, and I initially used it last year for the cast off edge of another shawl where it looked gorgeous - but I was eager to see more<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0tL3kxABBmE/W7X69UxV5AI/AAAAAAAAEr8/jzDm0fkn6pQRAeW6YqmhHQR10h_7WIzfQCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0tL3kxABBmE/W7X69UxV5AI/AAAAAAAAEr8/jzDm0fkn6pQRAeW6YqmhHQR10h_7WIzfQCKgBGAs/s400/image.jpeg" width="300" /></a></div>
So with almost a full skein I chose the <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/onete-scarf">Onete Scarf</a> by Fairmount Fibres Design Team. Such a gorgeous (free!) pattern - I love those garter stitch bumps. I wore it to school this week, which is what reminded me that I still hadn't blogged about it. Maybe I'll rummage around for another thing to wear next week meaning another post! Happy October everyone...<br />

<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BaEEGGbZpMw/WuyZDWWUm-I/AAAAAAAAEqM/xiswmHk07Ssh4CyHlnrpyGyMpThi3TO9ACKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1070" data-original-width="1600" height="267" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BaEEGGbZpMw/WuyZDWWUm-I/AAAAAAAAEqM/xiswmHk07Ssh4CyHlnrpyGyMpThi3TO9ACKgBGAs/s400/image.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
I think these are my very favourites for two reasons. No, three. This yarn was my first indie dyed yarn, the yarn is dreamy, and the pattern is lovely. The yarn is <a href="https://www.cosmicstrings.co.uk/">Cosmic Strings</a> in rose garden, a gorgeous present from Mr R, and somehow extra special for being the first skein I owned.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Y3hQ4Borl64/Wuydl148ncI/AAAAAAAAEqs/T2FZTcf3eEkp6aW9Oe4Nf3ejLAu4SUwBQCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Y3hQ4Borl64/Wuydl148ncI/AAAAAAAAEqs/T2FZTcf3eEkp6aW9Oe4Nf3ejLAu4SUwBQCKgBGAs/s400/image.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
These wristwarmers were knitted a few years ago, it was only when I was emptying the basket of winter woollies in the hallway this week that I realised they had not yet been shown here. I still adore this yarn - the amazing colours and the softness of the single ply. Happily there was still a fair amount of the skein left, which I then used for my spindrift shawl (seen <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/projects/mrsrobinsonknits/spindrift-shawl">here</a>). The pattern is a non-stripey version of the <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/stripey-arms">Stripey Arms</a> by Ameona Online, another free Ravelry pattern. I love that they are long<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7ZCLp3e8894/WuyhFgST1qI/AAAAAAAAEq4/21A_Yt1NUVMzWFwOE7R7UhVUZRIdnnQzQCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1019" data-original-width="1600" height="253" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7ZCLp3e8894/WuyhFgST1qI/AAAAAAAAEq4/21A_Yt1NUVMzWFwOE7R7UhVUZRIdnnQzQCKgBGAs/s400/image.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
Just look at those pretty colours. Oh, and a scrap of Debbie Bliss 4 ply but-no-idea-of-colour used for the rib.<br />
<br />
As much as I do love these I am hoping that I can now pack them away for the summer...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

mrsrobinsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11688062627526896005noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3117288608974889131.post-5854987081390281602018-05-02T06:44:00.002-07:002018-05-02T06:47:09.702-07:00More mittsJust popping in today as feeling yuck. The cold poor P had at the weekend has been shared... I thought though, at the start of the week, that a way to catch up with makes on here - and to remember what I had shown - would be to group similar things together in the week. So this is to be the week of mitts and wristwarmers, and then possibly various hats next week. <br />
<br />
So the mitts this time are for small people<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lD9BgTiekPY/WumO6hCXXuI/AAAAAAAAEpA/QF2_sBCCuz4fZCthEzYEr6TgkgH0MrikgCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1201" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lD9BgTiekPY/WumO6hCXXuI/AAAAAAAAEpA/QF2_sBCCuz4fZCthEzYEr6TgkgH0MrikgCKgBGAs/s400/image.jpeg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It was the sweetest pointed top and stitch pattern that made me excited to try these mitts - that and the fact that I was (and am) attempting to use up all part balls of yarn in the basket and drawers. Baby and child makes are ideal for the smallish quantities I have... then I just have to find suitable small people to gift them to! This is the (free!) <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rocket-pop-baby-mitts">Rocket Pop Baby Mitts</a> pattern by Andrea Mowry using leftovers of Drops Nepal from a Gryffindor scarf made for P. It is an adorable pattern, and I would certainly make it again. If you have small people to knit for I really do recommend it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Inbetween sniffing and feeling sorry for myself today I hope to find time to sit with my jumble blanket as the sweetest Instagram friend responded to my plea for dk scraps when I ran out of my own remnants last week. Not that these should be called scraps, they are so pretty. Thank you so Clare, if you happen to be reading this. In fact I think it is time for coffee and crochet right now...</div>

But wristwarmers. Today - the last day of April. My, it is chilly. Anyway, this pile were all Christmas presents for Patch's lovely teachers (which will hopefully explain the dark quality of these photographs)<br />
<br />
The pattern I enjoyed knitting the most was the camp out fingerless mitts<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lI3DUHvZpmU/Wub2lCA534I/AAAAAAAAEoI/-D_UM3VS334TDj8hhwDXzdg0mbfw0hRXgCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lI3DUHvZpmU/Wub2lCA534I/AAAAAAAAEoI/-D_UM3VS334TDj8hhwDXzdg0mbfw0hRXgCKgBGAs/s400/image.jpeg" width="300" /></a></div>
This is a free Ravelry pattern by tante ehm, and was such a fun way to use up some leftovers. The main part of the mitts are in Drops big merino - the lighter colour is marble, and the dark anthracite. For the garter stitch section of the lighter mitt I held some discovered mohair looking yarn with the strand of marble, and for the darker mitts used up some Rico fashion country Aran in aubergine.<br />
<br />
Next is a pattern I have wanted to make for an age, because of my love of garter stitch<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cVUXet-cToY/Wub2lBbRTXI/AAAAAAAAEoI/Z0Ms1oFi_IQpzDOwj0Yc94oJC1ipNvtRwCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cVUXet-cToY/Wub2lBbRTXI/AAAAAAAAEoI/Z0Ms1oFi_IQpzDOwj0Yc94oJC1ipNvtRwCKgBGAs/s400/image.jpeg" width="300" /></a></div>
The pattern is from the book Stylish Knit Scarves and Hats with Mademoiselle Sophie, and are an even easier make then the camp out fingerless mitts, which do require some picking up stitches. These were made from a random ball of Rowan pure wool dk in the parsley colourway. So satisfying finding lovely knits for these long hoarded balls of yarn.<br />
<br />
And the last pair are another free Ravelry pattern, this time the maize mitts by tin can knits, made in Drops big merino marble again. I did spy poor Hettie wearing hers this morning as she huddled in the playground before school. Always lovely to see hand knits being worn, but not at the end of April. Here's hoping for some warmer weather! Though you may have to put up with seeing woolly, wintry makes for a little longer here as I have a lot of catching up to do...<br />

The last of knitvent2017Oh it is cold and grey today. The morning has gone in a whirl of general tidying and sorting, and I think the few hours left before getting Patch from school may be spent curling up with a podcast and woolly make... sounds delightful. Also this chilliness makes me feel that I'm not too late in showing some rather woolly makes. Though no doubt I will still be catching up with past wintry makes even when the sun does decide to return.<br />
<br />
The last of the knitvent2017 patterns was a gorgeously simple, quick knit chunky cape<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TqyxME0I5GE/WuMDueITFpI/AAAAAAAAEnM/yoErsufJJtk6nfTiRolYHKPkHaXKwR7twCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TqyxME0I5GE/WuMDueITFpI/AAAAAAAAEnM/yoErsufJJtk6nfTiRolYHKPkHaXKwR7twCKgBGAs/s400/image.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
So lovely. I knit the larger of the two sizes so that I can wear it over layers, and it also fits over my coat. The yarn (unsurprisingly) is Drops Andes in light grey, and it really is so soft and snuggly. I do wish I had thought about the yarn overs in the pattern - you can see that they only really appear to the right of the stocking stitch sections - and of course I should have altered the way I was doing them when going onto purl stitches. It did, and does, bother me slightly. Though not enough to redo the cape.<br />
<br />
This was my first time knitting through one of Helen's knitvents, and I will be tempted again as the patterns have all had so much wear this wintertime. I like this photograph of my knitvent pile looking oh so cosy<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zGVwkMXKh7I/WuMDm9go_5I/AAAAAAAAEnI/mAXdUyS9QikLGeZfVk1xrNzntrpAR9omQCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zGVwkMXKh7I/WuMDm9go_5I/AAAAAAAAEnI/mAXdUyS9QikLGeZfVk1xrNzntrpAR9omQCKgBGAs/s400/image.jpeg" width="300" /></a></div>
mrsrobinsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11688062627526896005noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3117288608974889131.post-28609115405109040682018-04-25T07:36:00.001-07:002018-04-25T07:38:15.400-07:00A renewed love of legwarmers This wintertime I knitted my first pair of legwarmers (not that these are the first legwarmers in my life, I did grow up during the 1980s) but forgetting those distinctly acrylic versions, these are my first hand knit pair. And oh they are a dream. After the beautifully sunny weather of the past few days, it has become chilly once again here in Suffolk and so the legwarmers are back on.<br />
<br />
This renewed love of legwarmers began as soon as I saw the fifth pattern in Helen Stewart's Knitvent2017 collection, the marzipan legwarmers. I knew that I wanted my pair to have the fluffiness of alpaca and be a charcoal colour. Perhaps not the best decision for a cabled pattern, which would have shown up more on a lighter and smoother yarn, but there was no changing my vision<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mlOze-TmQU4/WuCLNwlL0CI/AAAAAAAAEl4/_4uqfjERQX4iXIF4qxR4cJffidJcGoJ9QCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mlOze-TmQU4/WuCLNwlL0CI/AAAAAAAAEl4/_4uqfjERQX4iXIF4qxR4cJffidJcGoJ9QCKgBGAs/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
The yarn is Drops Puna, a 100% alpaca, in dark grey. The surprising thing about this pattern was that I only knitted to row 96, which is about half of the suggested length. I am quite short, and also wear them slouchy rather than pulled up like a ballerina, but I feel like the full pattern would make some rather long legwarmers.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TOEp-pLwQu0/WuCLN_xpykI/AAAAAAAAEl4/QADUvmycSJYaBn2LD_djedmKwsAzAc6CACKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TOEp-pLwQu0/WuCLN_xpykI/AAAAAAAAEl4/QADUvmycSJYaBn2LD_djedmKwsAzAc6CACKgBGAs/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I seem to have a few makes in progress at the moment, though they are steadily being completed. The one that I have been loving this week is my jumble blanket as quite unexpectedly it appears to be almost finished. I should make the most of the chillier evenings this week as warmer weather usually means blanket making gets replaced with smaller projects for me. Just look at these colours!</div>

mrsrobinsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11688062627526896005noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3117288608974889131.post-59334324600108088452018-04-05T05:01:00.003-07:002018-04-05T05:04:11.010-07:00And now, the Tchaikovsky hat and mittsI feel rather like our kit Miss Ethel today... I've searched the house for the sunniest, warmest spot to settle into. Strangely it isn't already occupied by Miss Ethel (who is curled up on the bed having found a warm spot as soon as the bed was vacated this morning). I plan to stay here as long as I am allowed, or at least until the sun moves on. It's probably warmer outside actually... We have no heating again. Sigh. This winter will be remembered as the year of mud and feeling cold. Though a great excuse for the woolly makes as we all know wool keeps us warm - preferably with continuous mugs of coffee and possibly some cake or chocolate.<br />
<br />
Because of the sun there is no need for wristwarmers in the house today, but oh my have they been put to good use this winter<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ohZUhkzQkSk/WsYJfIHyj3I/AAAAAAAAEkg/GCAdJahwGZcFreF6ZvQr2Ef1soeMHXOpACKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ohZUhkzQkSk/WsYJfIHyj3I/AAAAAAAAEkg/GCAdJahwGZcFreF6ZvQr2Ef1soeMHXOpACKgBGAs/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
The patterns are the Tchaikovsky hat and mitts, the third instalment in Helen Stewart's Knitvent2017. Grey is my default go-with-anything colour (along with navy, and tan. Or navy and tan) and mainly because I wanted a grey hat, the mitts also ended up being grey. The stitch definition with this CoopKnits Socks Yeah DK weight yarn is oh so clear, and this particular grey is Minos.<br />

Though I did get gauge both of these knits have ended up being slightly large - I probably should have reduced the width of the mitts by a pattern repeat or two, and I did stop knitting the top ribbing by a few rows as my little finger was already hidden. The mitts have a thumb hole, which I prefer possibly over a thumb section maybe, but this one on me is a bit gapey so not as snug as could be. And while I love the deep ribbed section on the hat, again it is slightly big on me, but this has not stopped both of these being my go to knits this winter. Though I would quite like to stop reaching for the woolly hats and mitts now please, Spring. Time for some pretty shawls to be worn.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The sun is still shining through the window, I am yet to be discovered, so I shall stay warm with this lovely Spring-like crochet...</div>

Maybe I should call these posts makes I've finished but forgotten to post about...<br />
<br />
So, the Tulle Shawl was the second pattern released in December as part of knitvent 2017 collection by Helen Stewart of Curious Handmade. A fairly simple shawl in possibly my favourite garter stitch (cannot choose between garter or moss stitch as my all time favourite...) with a lace border. These patterns were released weekly during the festive period with the idea that they would make great gift knits, so while they have interest for the knitter, they shouldn't be too time consuming<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xhrguOnnfl8/Wqks-5fXKyI/AAAAAAAAEiQ/Vpeg8-PioF0Fyf2VafUhUX1SXH8x5fdUgCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_0428.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xhrguOnnfl8/Wqks-5fXKyI/AAAAAAAAEiQ/Vpeg8-PioF0Fyf2VafUhUX1SXH8x5fdUgCKgBGAs/s640/IMG_0428.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So happy when my woolly make co-ordinates so prettily with my project bag.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As usual when making a shawl I didn't knit a gauge square, though the finished shawl after blocking is slightly smaller than the pattern suggests, not at all something I mind as it is the most delicate shawl. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Such pretty lace. Mine is knit without beads (though this is optional in the pattern). So pretty... it really does live up to its name.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Happily I found the perfect yarn for this shawl in the basket - the colours made me think of the tulle tutu worn by the sugar plum fairy. The yarn is from fondant fibre, though sadly Debs isn't dyeing yarn at the moment. The colourway is jasmine scented evening and the SW merino mulberry silk mix means it has the most gorgeous drape</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Deb also included the sweetest stitch marker...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Other than catching up with unshown makes, life has been gently busy though of the nothing to show general busyness of the lovely everyday. There has been snow - with four happy snow days - a birthday (mine), so many swim meets (my birthday was spent at the pool at UEA), making for World Book Day (the only making this year was a waistcoat as the rest of Newt Scamander's clothes were gathered together), a cancelled World Book Day (aforementioned snow day) and a gentle Mother's Day. Oh, we are also the proud new owners of a slow cooker in an attempt to manage to both cook and eat inbetween Patch's daily swim training. There have been a few really? But why when you are vegetarian moments, but the ease of putting ingredients in a pot and coming home late in the evening to find a yum meal was too tempting. So if anyone has any tempting vegetarian slow cooker recipes, please do share...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WdSGVxfgogc/WqlIzL11fYI/AAAAAAAAEjA/bcyBBojQEGENZFcHAJxqQcxaujIPNecSQCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WdSGVxfgogc/WqlIzL11fYI/AAAAAAAAEjA/bcyBBojQEGENZFcHAJxqQcxaujIPNecSQCKgBGAs/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
Of course there has also been some time for knitting. Ami of the little tailoress blog is currently hosting a kal for these bonding squares, I now have quite a pile which will be packaged and sent to Royal Berkshire hospital SCBU where Patch spent his first few weeks<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mIbJJF4alk8/WqlIzBKv3kI/AAAAAAAAEjA/AWAOh3pD9MYKlo0EXu5CvCh9tYt_k_GqQCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mIbJJF4alk8/WqlIzBKv3kI/AAAAAAAAEjA/AWAOh3pD9MYKlo0EXu5CvCh9tYt_k_GqQCKgBGAs/s400/image.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
And also some crochet time... this is the beginnings of a test pattern for Picot & Tricot in the most delightful Spring colour. More soon!<br />

I have loved the magic of The Nutcracker ballet since a child, and two years ago my parents gave me tickets as an early Christmas present to take P to see it at the Royal Opera House. So beautiful. And Helen's first pattern of knitvent 2017 was perfect.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XKp784JdpqQ/Wo_tvj3HHoI/AAAAAAAAEZQ/a4nLxSOur2onDnjZmal9QhRghhk7odwtQCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XKp784JdpqQ/Wo_tvj3HHoI/AAAAAAAAEZQ/a4nLxSOur2onDnjZmal9QhRghhk7odwtQCKgBGAs/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
This pattern is made up of twenty-four stripes of varying stitches and was designed with yarn advent calendars in mind. Sadly I had no gorgeous yarn advent calendar, but what I do have is lots of yarn oddments. Oh and one dreamy skein of Cosmic Strings - not at all an oddment! Rather than do all twenty-four stripes in a different yarn, I decided to knit the lace sections in the same yarn, and chose the deliciously named Cosmic Strings in marshmallow (and this way I would get to see more of these lovely speckles). I then dug around in the basket to see what other 4ply yarns I had in typically Christmas sweet colours... the ubiquitous tin of jewel foil covered chocolates. Oh and red for the candy canes of course.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wKup88kongk/Wo_tvsYURyI/AAAAAAAAEZQ/E-tBex3CROImvMjo-dd63znyhR3rnSJCACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_0308.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wKup88kongk/Wo_tvsYURyI/AAAAAAAAEZQ/E-tBex3CROImvMjo-dd63znyhR3rnSJCACKgBGAs/s640/IMG_0308.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This has been such a popular pattern this wintertime, and rightly so... a chance to play with colours, all those gorgeous different textures. It may be one of my favourite patterns</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0aXzMlTlzKo/Wo_1SgIN5TI/AAAAAAAAEZk/SEekEMMJXsoC5RztcF0Z4GN4eOoDe8UQgCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_0296.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0aXzMlTlzKo/Wo_1SgIN5TI/AAAAAAAAEZk/SEekEMMJXsoC5RztcF0Z4GN4eOoDe8UQgCKgBGAs/s640/IMG_0296.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I get ridiculously giddy when my woolly make, project bag and progress keeper match. Just look at that star filled bauble! Purchased from the lovely Jooles of <a href="https://sewsweetviolet.co.uk/collections/everything?page=1">sew sweet violet</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hH2qLFLvCQk/Wo_tvmevHtI/AAAAAAAAEZQ/oqp-HQfAjcsB2eEHFaO_kDJJRusEznCfQCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hH2qLFLvCQk/Wo_tvmevHtI/AAAAAAAAEZQ/oqp-HQfAjcsB2eEHFaO_kDJJRusEznCfQCKgBGAs/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have been wearing this cowl so much this wintertime, it is so snug and colourful and long - quite unlike any other cowl I have. It softly folds and drapes and looks most cheery. Today is day three without heating and oh my it is cold out there, and in here, but my neck at least is toasty...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

That way we can ignore the silence on here of the past few months. Suffolk has been grey this January. Perhaps more brown due to all the mud. So brown and grey. It would appear that when all is brown and grey all I want to do is curl up. Everyone has been clothed (in fact that has been a highlight of January, saying hello to the bottom of the ironing basket), appropriately fed and the house is vaguely tidy and clean-ish, and that has been it. I have high hopes for February!<br />
<br />
Starting with a sunny shawl<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fAQmDsX8RSk/Wnr_6Fj9D2I/AAAAAAAAEXE/YrYuhiccwLcf07C_0LxOuJTjlpDlpR7GACKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1249" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fAQmDsX8RSk/Wnr_6Fj9D2I/AAAAAAAAEXE/YrYuhiccwLcf07C_0LxOuJTjlpDlpR7GACKgBGAs/s640/image.jpeg" width="498" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Mr R gave me this yarn for Christmas last year (oh, I think I might meant two years ago. Not this Christmas), my first gradient yarn cake, from a dyer he found all on his own on etsy. The yarn is the Merino-twin from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Wollelfe">Wollelfe</a> in the colour Gloria Dei</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8MwkPQmW4b4/WnsDh-EjWsI/AAAAAAAAEXY/npuHtNdnXRoSEiVYRpbOsTg2y2O0tgtvACKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8MwkPQmW4b4/WnsDh-EjWsI/AAAAAAAAEXY/npuHtNdnXRoSEiVYRpbOsTg2y2O0tgtvACKgBGAs/s400/image.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
I think this colourway is named after a rose, and it was such a pretty yarn cake. I think it might have looked slightly prettier as a cake than knitted...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9MX6vFv-A9A/WnsDh8snkLI/AAAAAAAAEXY/NaEy8VYBIu8OfgfBQQFVAEI519onfxFJACKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1190" data-original-width="1600" height="296" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9MX6vFv-A9A/WnsDh8snkLI/AAAAAAAAEXY/NaEy8VYBIu8OfgfBQQFVAEI519onfxFJACKgBGAs/s400/image.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The pattern is a free Ravelry pattern - the <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/storm-shawl-2">storm shawl</a> by Joanna Davies designed with gradient yarn sets in mind. I have called mine the petal shawl as it reminds me of a peony petal</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Vz-PJDEVF6U/WnsH302xx4I/AAAAAAAAEXo/yTUhvzDAODUoSAdG_GDaG6Ee0lenjhU9wCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Vz-PJDEVF6U/WnsH302xx4I/AAAAAAAAEXo/yTUhvzDAODUoSAdG_GDaG6Ee0lenjhU9wCKgBGAs/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
Such an easy pattern though fairly lengthy to knit all 800 meters of yarn. The colour changes did help to keep my attention, and the interest of fellow swim parents, as this was my at the pool knitting make last late winter and early spring. Looking forward to wearing it again in the sunnier weather, or maybe I should wear it now to combat the grey...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It was finished in the spring, and has been a favourite ever since<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-60iCK2dDU1o/WhLNOnEh1qI/AAAAAAAAEJI/LM4_M0OQtHkk0w-8tsw_sWdiqogAlAcsACKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-60iCK2dDU1o/WhLNOnEh1qI/AAAAAAAAEJI/LM4_M0OQtHkk0w-8tsw_sWdiqogAlAcsACKgBGAs/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
I love this pattern, and if it wasn't for my rather lengthy Ravelry queue, would be tempted to knit it again. The <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/arrosa">Arrosa shawl</a> by Jennifer Weissman featured on the front cover of pompom quarterly issue 20 and was my reason for buying that issue (though a later flick through added a few more knits to the must make list). To make this shawl a fairly affordable knit - and because I like the softness of this yarn - I knit the main part in Drops baby merino already in the basket and then treated myself to a pop of dreamy colour for the cast off... the oh so delicious Cosmic Strings in Foxglove colourway<br />

A gentle sewing project suited my mood and ability after what seems like months of coughs and colds.<br />
<br />
The largest piece of fabric found was left over from a festive skirt made for one of P's friends, and so I started to experiment with various sizes. My first attempt is a fairly wide and short project bag, suitable for a pair of socks or such...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-soGtqRJ6ljc/Wgmp-jPp6yI/AAAAAAAAECU/jbMFZxVA2_kW8rfVjxneq420h-ROSp5bwCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-soGtqRJ6ljc/Wgmp-jPp6yI/AAAAAAAAECU/jbMFZxVA2_kW8rfVjxneq420h-ROSp5bwCKgBGAs/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
followed by my favourite size so far - just the thing for a shawl.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gdhdJLD1wCc/Wgmp-gortXI/AAAAAAAAECU/dTLg_rn3sxUKc9OeHnM90eNEsEqGmH6PQCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gdhdJLD1wCc/Wgmp-gortXI/AAAAAAAAECU/dTLg_rn3sxUKc9OeHnM90eNEsEqGmH6PQCKgBGAs/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The next one has an autumnal feel with the sweet thermos, and the size was depicted by the remnant of fabric found in the pile. A good size for socks or gloves</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vNj-xyiREqs/WgmpwbZw9VI/AAAAAAAAECQ/av8EMMyw-YcAAuw_3eNfl53KP8UAAoG6gCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vNj-xyiREqs/WgmpwbZw9VI/AAAAAAAAECQ/av8EMMyw-YcAAuw_3eNfl53KP8UAAoG6gCKgBGAs/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
In the middle of bag making I signed up for <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/knitvent-2017">knitvent 2017</a> by Helen Stewart of Curious Handmade - the theme this year is The Nutcracker, and I could not resist. In preparation for the release of the first pattern in the collection I made yet another project bag in some dreamy fabric which reminds me of the festive magic of The Nutcracker<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-trk-Kp-M4sg/WgmpwbVXc1I/AAAAAAAAECQ/lpgSUifbzrs0aYoi8QW5VggBbbJ4UMEhQCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-trk-Kp-M4sg/WgmpwbVXc1I/AAAAAAAAECQ/lpgSUifbzrs0aYoi8QW5VggBbbJ4UMEhQCKgBGAs/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
The fabric is Be Merry, part of the Little Town collection, purchased from <a href="https://sewmesunshine.co.uk/collections/fabric/products/be-merry-cotton-art-gallery-fabrics">sew me sunshine</a> and is home to the first knitvent 2017 pattern released last Thursday, a dreamy cowl inspired by the Land of Sweets (yes, already cast on - shall show you my progress soon)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bI9S6jwdjFM/WgmpwYV9G5I/AAAAAAAAECQ/VtEJrXj37aguRnUiKcTKUKKxxyYYqgwiQCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bI9S6jwdjFM/WgmpwYV9G5I/AAAAAAAAECQ/VtEJrXj37aguRnUiKcTKUKKxxyYYqgwiQCKgBGAs/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And so, giveaway time. As there is yet another project bag still to be shown I have decided that I possibly don't need quite this many, and certainly not two in the same print, so I shall giveaway the smaller of the Christmas tree print bags. This is the project bag shown at the front of the first photograph, and on the right below where you can see the width more clearly. It is fully lined with a red dotty fabric and would make a good size project bag for a pair of socks or mittens. Leave a comment below telling me what woolly project you would use this festive project bag for, and I shall chose a winner on Monday 28 November. Good luck!</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4NBlLPPgKfw/WfcsNVd9INI/AAAAAAAAEAw/dLFRUtoFx1sxelJ9VrmQFOioY2Q0Hj0BQCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4NBlLPPgKfw/WfcsNVd9INI/AAAAAAAAEAw/dLFRUtoFx1sxelJ9VrmQFOioY2Q0Hj0BQCKgBGAs/s400/image.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
This time a crochet shawl... During the spring of this year, the lovely Sandra of <a href="http://sandra-cherryheart.blogspot.co.uk/">cherry heart blog</a> organised a Hotel of Bees CAL, for the Hotel of Bees shawl by <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hotel-of-bees-shawl">Christina Hadderingh</a>. Eager to crochet along with Sandra I purchased the pattern, thought about colours, searched for suitable yarn in chosen colours, struggled to find what I wanted in those colours, found colours in a cotton yarn, decided cotton would be fine, in fact great as this could be a summer shawl, purchased yarn and set to.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-u8JzHY_GNd4/Wfcsh2dlDiI/AAAAAAAAEA0/PAuq0jvDvGsTNzrToiVn27IxRRq1vhmlgCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1374" data-original-width="1600" height="342" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-u8JzHY_GNd4/Wfcsh2dlDiI/AAAAAAAAEA0/PAuq0jvDvGsTNzrToiVn27IxRRq1vhmlgCKgBGAs/s400/image.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I do like the yarn in its little pile, but I do wish I had thought a little harder about a one hundred percent cotton shawl, a large-ish 5ply shawl. This is oh so heavy and I imagine will stretch a lot - if it is ever worn.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8PUFEjAhgnY/WfcsNRaxVOI/AAAAAAAAEAw/KG0Nz7lSla8YgYVmyiOoSn2TZte6tFLUwCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8PUFEjAhgnY/WfcsNRaxVOI/AAAAAAAAEAw/KG0Nz7lSla8YgYVmyiOoSn2TZte6tFLUwCKgBGAs/s400/image.jpeg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Because sadly for this poor shawl, I don't think it has been worn once... and not just because of my poor yarn content choice. So eager was I to join in the fun of the CAL that I didn't really pay much attention to the finished shawl, and while it was a great pattern to crochet with lots of techniques, and the pattern itself was so well written, the finished shawl is just a bit bitty I think for my liking. I have since seen a version crocheted in one colour however, which I do like and I really, really like the honeycomb effect in some of the sections.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/--HCCBUgebD0/WfcsNTrjeWI/AAAAAAAAEAw/K3mI0C8tsTYapVNWpiAfQZKcyY5CcbI9gCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/--HCCBUgebD0/WfcsNTrjeWI/AAAAAAAAEAw/K3mI0C8tsTYapVNWpiAfQZKcyY5CcbI9gCKgBGAs/s400/image.jpeg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hmmm, so what to do with it? I am quite proud of the finished thing and yet it isn't something I reach for from my pile of shawls and it seems a bit of a waste for it to sit in the wardrobe. Oh well, maybe it will grow on me (hopefully not in the stretching sense) next summer... Details of (poor) yarn choice can be seen on my Ravelry page <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/projects/mrsrobinsonknits/hotel-of-bees-shawl">here</a></div>
<br />mrsrobinsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11688062627526896005noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3117288608974889131.post-89903918129900175632017-10-17T03:46:00.001-07:002017-10-17T03:49:39.548-07:00Just the weather for a shawl<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Oh September and October, you have been so full of horrible illness for this little family... it started with the cold P got in the first week of term, which he then lovingly shared, followed by yet more colds, a bout of flu and now a persistent cough for me that is proving rather tiresome. The garden still needs autumnal attention, the house needs a thorough clean. Yuk. The good thing about October though is the regular necessity of a shawl again</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QVf5jIRT4rs/WeTsHwkpnII/AAAAAAAAD_E/Sx8C_yiduDk4btFk5aVJiorE6pThnSbrgCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="830" data-original-width="1600" height="205" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QVf5jIRT4rs/WeTsHwkpnII/AAAAAAAAD_E/Sx8C_yiduDk4btFk5aVJiorE6pThnSbrgCKgBGAs/s400/image.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This was my introduction to Helen Stewart's patterns... the <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/spindrift-shawl">Spindrift Shawl</a>, knitted last wintertime. I think I chose this one to knit first as the pattern is rather generously provided for free once you sign up to an email workshop.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BX-bVpd-KcM/WeToNrujhqI/AAAAAAAAD-8/IBQ0ElgasB8pj3gbFMIRongg-btC_T0GACKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BX-bVpd-KcM/WeToNrujhqI/AAAAAAAAD-8/IBQ0ElgasB8pj3gbFMIRongg-btC_T0GACKgBGAs/s400/image.jpeg" width="300" /></a></div>
I really like the way Helen's patterns are written - my current swim project is another of Helen's shawls, and the format of the patterns mean that I can easily keep track of rows even when being a good Mummy and glancing up to see how P is doing in training. So much support is available in the Ravelry Spindrift group (another thing common to Helen's patterns and particularly useful and motivating for the more complex Snowmelt Shawl).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3G3odZzYOhI/WeToNoijKXI/AAAAAAAAD-8/I_eAKvs72nwIl0d9XhBsypkrMMkNqCxnQCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3G3odZzYOhI/WeToNoijKXI/AAAAAAAAD-8/I_eAKvs72nwIl0d9XhBsypkrMMkNqCxnQCKgBGAs/s400/image.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had been saving the precious remains of my first skein of dreamy Cosmic Strings (used to knit a pair of yet-to-be-blogged wristwarmers, made probably a year ago. How remiss) and this gorgeous single ply merino yarn has made such a soft shawl. The pretty colourway is rose garden, purchased summer 2016, so most likely no longer available but I know that I could happily buy many skeins of their yarn each time I look, so no doubt there will be some gorgeous colourway to tempt you. The wristwarmers meant that I had to combine a second yarn, though normally this would be a one skein pattern. I knit the wristwarmers with a contrast rib (reminder to dig them out from the bottom of the knits basket and photograph them) in a 4 ply though I think the Cosmic Strings yarn is more of a lightweight 4 ply, so for this shawl I paired it with the similar weight Coop Knits socks yeah in Danburite.</div>

Summer was full of summer-type things, a mix of busy and gentle days and all rather lovely. Since school started poor P has been home more days than at school due to a horrible cold... which I now have. At least this sitting still is making me want to catch up with this poorly neglected blog.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--AgGI01luUE/WcEMdsPi4yI/AAAAAAAAD8s/usC6BOVn4n8HzGPuBbTiqP8S338oBGS5wCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--AgGI01luUE/WcEMdsPi4yI/AAAAAAAAD8s/usC6BOVn4n8HzGPuBbTiqP8S338oBGS5wCKgBGAs/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's unlike me to show a seasonally appropriate make, but this trendy shawlette has been used these past few mornings when we finally started walking to school again, and on the one early morn swim training P has managed so far this term. (Please don't think that I am assuming trendiness by wearing this, it is simply the name of the pattern, which I love whether it is thought trendy or otherwise). The Trendy Shawlette is from a lovely book of patterns, Knit Stylish Scarves & Hats, by Mademoiselle Sophie and happily I managed to make this using wool from the basket, leftover from making a baby blanket. The wool - actually a merino cotton from smc select - is what makes this so seasonally appropriate. The pattern suggests that this can be knitted in any kind of yarn in any size, though I held this dk wool double and knitted it on the suggested 8mm needles, and I think used approximately four balls. There are some dreamy versions on Ravelry... brightly coloured, oversized, alpaca and mohair. Gorgeous. And I think garter stitch may just be one of my favourite stitches, I love the neat ridges. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Mr R has made me giggle - not easy with a blocked nose - with a Only Fools and Horses clip, when Raquel is singing a duet of Crying. So silly. We've just been listening to the song on a cd Mr R gave me this morn to celebrate twenty-five year since we met. How sweet! I had no idea that Roy Orbison was singing Crying with kd Lang in 1992. And so much fun to hear Achy Breaky Heart. Though I now can't stop singing c-wyee-ing to myself. And there was wool, well done Mr R, but that shall wait for another day. Mr R is going to take P to swim training, so I am going to cosy under a blanket with Miss Ethel, knitting and some podcasts. Oh, and tissues. Yuck</div>

Mr R had the rather sweet idea of taking me to the local wool shop after we left the train station on Monday morn, and insisted I buy yarn so I could then knit or crochet these days away. I did assure him that I already have enough yarn to be doing that, but the plan was so lovely and so I (more) happily came out clutching some gorgeous Sock Yeah and a variety of cotton yarn which will be made into end of term presents. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As well as dreaming of P coming home, here is another dream of mine... the perfect summertime jumper. A bit like my search for the perfect summery cotton tee (cotton, hole-y, slightly 80s and certainly not resembling chain mail) I have also been on the look out for the same in jumper form. I may have found the very thing in a navia pattern book</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Gu8u4OsjwcA/WV5QctXRVtI/AAAAAAAAD7w/0mbOV5rkdeU9NsZBcDA2XUtWOJNUEkj4ACKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Gu8u4OsjwcA/WV5QctXRVtI/AAAAAAAAD7w/0mbOV5rkdeU9NsZBcDA2XUtWOJNUEkj4ACKgBGAs/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
This is Sigrun, or model 16, from navia pattern book 17. Look at those holes. My first thoughts were that this had to be crocheted in a summery cotton, and so had a go with some Alba by BC Garn from the basket. The thing with a crochet hole-y cotton jumper is that it has no stretch. At all. This pattern was not going to be the cotton jumper I had planned. I did think about using the dreamy Socks Yeah but the amount of yarn needed would have made this a very expensive jumper, and at the time I didn't know how much I was going to love the finished jumper. So then I did what I usually do, and ordered some Drops.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jS0XR9UJHnU/WV5Qcs4fyrI/AAAAAAAAD7w/WTBvEl-SQHkP_7NyZyNQmNySu-SFAhofACKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jS0XR9UJHnU/WV5Qcs4fyrI/AAAAAAAAD7w/WTBvEl-SQHkP_7NyZyNQmNySu-SFAhofACKgBGAs/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
I used five balls of Drops baby merino, so not a costly jumper at all. And some of the BC GARN Alba in the delightfully summery (yet unimaginatively named) colour 07. Why have I not been knitting summer tees and jumpers in this gorgeous colour?<br />
<br />
So, while not the cotton jumper I planned, this may get more wear throughout the year. I love it. But if anyone does have any great patterns for cotton tees or jumpers, please let me know...<br />

<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pUP-0mrdNgo/WUus8Fp4s9I/AAAAAAAAD5s/HIQQysrJF3MJKSkvP-5meuEu2ESULgrMACKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pUP-0mrdNgo/WUus8Fp4s9I/AAAAAAAAD5s/HIQQysrJF3MJKSkvP-5meuEu2ESULgrMACKgBGAs/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
Just two weeks ago the hot water bottles were in use. (Though Patch did dash back into his bedroom this morning before swim training for his microwaveable cosy and asked for it to be heated. Even at half four this morning it was already most certainly not hot water bottle weather.)<br />
<br />
These two hot water bottles are the result of me continuing to use the teeny leftovers of yarn, and some really were scraps. But I love these scrappy cosies. I gathered together all the aran scraps, and found a suitable (free!) pattern on Ravelry - Mary J Stephen's <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hot-water-bottle-cover-22">hot water bottle cover </a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jzA-47hhLtY/WUuusLnNOfI/AAAAAAAAD58/3myqPtEKX1oSIoXfJO3V4qEgdQ_eKSx6wCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jzA-47hhLtY/WUuusLnNOfI/AAAAAAAAD58/3myqPtEKX1oSIoXfJO3V4qEgdQ_eKSx6wCKgBGAs/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
The length was a little long for this hot water bottle, but I like the look of the turned back cuff.<br />
<br />
I soon happily realised I had still enough leftovers for another cosy... I am sure I chose a pattern by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/crocheted-hot-water-bottle-cover">Sez Manning</a>, again on Ravelry, as I liked the idea of a side opening. But I know I didn't purchase a pattern, and this now looks like it is a pattern to buy. Hmmmm... This is when I wish I didn't take so long between making things and blogging about them.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7v3-nm-otZM/WUuusF3IXOI/AAAAAAAAD58/Cfsijw97jAkG0EUdBTFNlPobzqhKAZy6gCKgBGAs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7v3-nm-otZM/WUuusF3IXOI/AAAAAAAAD58/Cfsijw97jAkG0EUdBTFNlPobzqhKAZy6gCKgBGAs/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
Anyway, whichever pattern I followed used a zip for the side opening (surely it was that pattern - there can't be many patterns for hot water bottle covers on Ravelry with a zip opening?) I opted for a random button closure instead. Any excuse to raid Great Nan's button tin<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Just thought that I'm not sure I have ever shown this most dreamy of pillows here on my blog. It is, of course, made by the lovely Beata of <a href="http://rosehip.typepad.com/">by rosehip</a> , and such a lucky duck I won it in a giveaway. So pretty<br />

It does seem a little strange to be talking about such woolly makes at this time, so I shall leave you with some photographs of pretty flowers in the garden this summer. So, so excited as this is the first year the peonies have flowered. I think I must have planted them about four years ago. And what a summer for the roses...<br />

<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tQB6uyOrQs4/WR7O4NJLgzI/AAAAAAAAD3M/OK1lBy44OeM0qg7ZmD9dOBT41Bk-SAG4QCKgB/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tQB6uyOrQs4/WR7O4NJLgzI/AAAAAAAAD3M/OK1lBy44OeM0qg7ZmD9dOBT41Bk-SAG4QCKgB/s400/image.jpeg" width="300" /></a></div>
I mentioned last time my liking for knit and crochet a-longs this year, and I think this was the first. The MKAL (mystery knit a-long for those sitting wondering) was organised by Helen Stewart of <a href="http://curioushandmade.com/">curious handmade</a> for a knitted shawl... and other than that it was a mystery. Well, not quite - we were given some information beforehand including weight and amounts of yarn needed, and maybe the end shape of the shawl, though I can't quite remember if that was revealed as we knit along... Oh, and I think we were informed that this was going to be a big shawl.<br />
<br />
Yarn was purchased in January when the weather in Suffolk was misty and grey with occasional glimpses of a wintry blue sky. I so wanted to make a shawl inspired by this wintry weather (I think mainly I liked the idea of cosying up inside with candles, knitting and coffee looking out on this beautiful weather) and so I set to looking for appropriate colours. I also wanted affordable yarn, as the mystery part of the a-long made me wonder whether I would love the finished shawl, and who wants to use precious hand-dyed loveliness on a never to be worn shawl? Silly really, as Helen's patterns are beautiful - I have knitted a Spindrift (hmmmm, have I shown that yet?) and so want to knit her Pebble Beach Shawl. Dreamy looking. Anyway, I thought drops merino would be just the thing but sadly not available in the colours I by now had decided this shawl just had to be made in, but drops alpaca did have suitable colours - light and medium grey mix, and turquoise<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ll3O2peaIBY/WR7ZhXcK34I/AAAAAAAAD3o/ONDVywuY1T087cnPhskkVj3MNkphb6FLACKgB/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ll3O2peaIBY/WR7ZhXcK34I/AAAAAAAAD3o/ONDVywuY1T087cnPhskkVj3MNkphb6FLACKgB/s400/image.jpeg" width="281" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I even managed to co-ordinate the candle. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Such a lovely way to spend some cold wintry days, and by spring I had a rather large shawl. The knitting was fun as so varied, the finished shawl whilst not a favourite (choice of yarn maybe, or colours, or maybe I'm not such a lacy person though I do love eyelets) is certainly one of my most worn shawls as it is so cosy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Snowmelt has proved tricky to photograph especially when I'm on my own at home, so I'm afraid a few chair and floor photographs are the best today!</div>

But then thought that maybe with a toddler even a crafty Mummy would appreciate a gift that required no assembly. Which meant that I had all the fun! Sorry Lou and Rachael...<br />

Such a cheery lion... Hope Leo is giving him lots of cuddles.<br />
<br />
I seem to have had a cold, followed by another cold for weeks. Yuk. But what with feeling worn out and lots of watching P swim I have had lots of crochet and knitting time. So much time, that I decided I could join in with two alongs, both of which are now in various stages of near completion. Both alongs have been organised by lovely bloggers, one by the lovely Sandra of <a href="http://sandra-cherryheart.blogspot.co.uk/">Cherry Heart blog</a> together with Sam of <a href="http://betsymakes.blogspot.co.uk/">Betsy Makes</a> and the second by the delightful Jooles of <a href="http://sewsweetviolet.blogspot.co.uk/">sew sweet violet</a>. Sandra and Sam have a crochet along (still time to join in!) for a particular pattern - the hotel of bees shawl #HOBCAL, while Jooles has a sweet bee happy along for any craft, for anything bee related. This is one of my shawls entered into the bee happy along - the Arrosa shawl from the spring issue of pompom. Gorgeous pattern, dreamy yarn... the colours and softness of Cosmic Strings yarn is so very, very beautiful. I'll show the finished shawl soon<br />

Not sure bobble hat weather...<br />
<br />
Until my current must make shawls all the time phase, I was enjoying the challenge of trying to use up all those bits of yarn leftover from various projects. And the chunky wool became a hat<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uMbTaUGcTXU/WQMOy2woB5I/AAAAAAAAD0c/C0IjW-csW6ERT7SJMezKXhvx12knCGyMACKgB/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uMbTaUGcTXU/WQMOy2woB5I/AAAAAAAAD0c/C0IjW-csW6ERT7SJMezKXhvx12knCGyMACKgB/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Using wool until it ran out, I knitted the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/finley-beanie">Finley Beanie</a> by Marissa Post. It was the deep band of rib that made me choose this pattern on my Ravelry search and it is a good simple, chunky, quick knit... </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once knitted, I wondered who to gift it to. The pattern suggests that the smaller size will fit children two to ten, so quite a range, but as I knitted a few less rows on the top section - when I ran out of yarn - a quick try on P showed that it was quite shallow. Wide but shallow. So a smaller head on a smaller body was needed. Just the thing for a lover of hats, five year old Merle. Who happily really likes her new hat.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The next hat is another chunky knit</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OcxRjcYcj7c/WQMUq1mPoGI/AAAAAAAAD0s/W2NIQIcXxVU3njsJrORFnhmtI5A-PI5BACKgB/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OcxRjcYcj7c/WQMUq1mPoGI/AAAAAAAAD0s/W2NIQIcXxVU3njsJrORFnhmtI5A-PI5BACKgB/s400/image.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This time the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/slush">Slush hat pattern</a> by Allison O'Mahony. I love this hat and so want to knit myself one, maybe next winter... It is freezing here in Suffolk. Wintery even. So maybe this knit is slightly appropriate). Oh, and Miss Ethel is our kitt...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eY-7MFQNBf8/WP4v1zb1_gI/AAAAAAAADyM/9AssR1Kd_KUaZtoYiMx-JGRBC48DH-lqgCKgB/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eY-7MFQNBf8/WP4v1zb1_gI/AAAAAAAADyM/9AssR1Kd_KUaZtoYiMx-JGRBC48DH-lqgCKgB/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
This pair of mini mittens were a Christmas present for Miss Ethel and have withstood robust play since December with an ever willing P<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;">Red Heart's free </span><a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mitten-ornaments-wr2082" style="text-align: left;">mitten ornament</a><span style="text-align: left;"> pattern was just the size for a pair of kitt mitts, knitted in some teeny scraps. I have been trying to use up all yarn oddments, some of which are teeny balls, and have questioned why I would keep such small amounts of yarn left over from various projects. I can quite understand my keeping of dreamy hand dyed yarns, but some of the everyday bits? I thought I had decided that if a really small amount is left at the end of a project then I should use for present wrapping or simply dispose of. But then I wouldn't have had these scraps waiting to be made into teeny mittens. Complete with a string...</span></div>

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KVw_d9zDAs4/V-0VBpBQuWI/AAAAAAAADfw/WmbANbKVp0sa98BMsntCZ5laN2hT7DeMgCPcB/s1600/iphone_photo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KVw_d9zDAs4/V-0VBpBQuWI/AAAAAAAADfw/WmbANbKVp0sa98BMsntCZ5laN2hT7DeMgCPcB/s400/iphone_photo.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Finally I knitted myself a Calorimetry... for the winter when it didn't get oh so freezingly chilly, so it has remained mostly unworn. I needed an easy poolside make, and I think this was my second project since P started swimming training, so this was made possibly October time<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-N4NCIO5kMKE/WOIRrqfXNEI/AAAAAAAADwg/0I2t1wZGfaItcZxcRDQ5Bfd14BbZz32cwCKgB/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="275" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-N4NCIO5kMKE/WOIRrqfXNEI/AAAAAAAADwg/0I2t1wZGfaItcZxcRDQ5Bfd14BbZz32cwCKgB/s400/image.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
The <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/calorimetry">calorimetry</a> is a free Ravelry pattern by Kathryn Schoendorf, with <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Moolala/calorimetry">these</a> changes by Moolala as the original makes too big a knit for my, or any of my friend's, heads. Maybe we all have small heads...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VNP4mMzbvyg/WOIRrkP5idI/AAAAAAAADwg/QMD2X5o2YVgVRiIbR-aSu4H15LvfvNLCgCKgB/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VNP4mMzbvyg/WOIRrkP5idI/AAAAAAAADwg/QMD2X5o2YVgVRiIbR-aSu4H15LvfvNLCgCKgB/s400/image.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
The wool is Rowan pure wool aran in banana. Not mustard. So this should be my banana calorimetry, and actually the shape pictured above is sort of banana-bent shape. Though this shade is most un-banana like and most definitely mustard. I think this wool may sadly be discontinued now, this was purchased an age ago - for this very knit - when there was still a yarn shop in Woodbridge. Which there hasn't been for years. Oh, and a vintage button<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

mrsrobinsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11688062627526896005noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3117288608974889131.post-43765746811255981212017-03-17T06:52:00.000-07:002017-03-17T06:54:53.422-07:00A chillly March morn, so I'll quickly show you another woolly cowlIt really has been a beautiful week here in Suffolk, though today was certainly cowl wearing weather again on the walk to school. Whilst this cowl may be cosy the colour is certainly springlike. Not that this has stopped me wearing it constantly this winter... I love it<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aNdS_U6zBlA/WMvkqbpm-nI/AAAAAAAADvk/BLBG7gKCvQ0sT3AB7rhuWfy5GnWb42QDgCKgB/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aNdS_U6zBlA/WMvkqbpm-nI/AAAAAAAADvk/BLBG7gKCvQ0sT3AB7rhuWfy5GnWb42QDgCKgB/s640/image.jpeg" width="428" /></a></div>
A dream to knit... my favourite moss stitch which took no time at all with this wool and chunky needles. The pattern is the (free!) <a href="http://www.janerichmond.com/products/marian-cowl">Marian cowl</a> by Jane Richmond knitted in Stitch and Story's chunky yarn.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-N7-M3Pj6wDY/WMvkqQnYWMI/AAAAAAAADvk/Kpd59j0G4d4JASrO_a_HL_0pe64XSRTvQCKgB/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-N7-M3Pj6wDY/WMvkqQnYWMI/AAAAAAAADvk/Kpd59j0G4d4JASrO_a_HL_0pe64XSRTvQCKgB/s640/image.jpeg" width="410" /></a></div>
This wool is deliciously squishy and oh so soft. I used up all of two balls of lime yellow knitted on 12 mm needles. The pattern suggests a chunkier wool and 15 mm needles, so mine is just a chunky cowl as opposed to the super bulky cowl of the original<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FW8QGDe1y9s/WMvkqYpQ7OI/AAAAAAAADvk/gy3kc4PMvRgVj3MZd4iSaip2dSEzcgVvQCKgB/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FW8QGDe1y9s/WMvkqYpQ7OI/AAAAAAAADvk/gy3kc4PMvRgVj3MZd4iSaip2dSEzcgVvQCKgB/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I would love to make myself many more using some other gorgeous Stitch and Story colours. The only negative thing about knitting this was Mr R asking if I could make less noise. Apparently those chunky wooden needles are just too click clacky. Small price to pay I say for such deliciousness.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

I first saw the pattern for the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/carloway-cowl">Carloway cowl</a> in issue 83 of Inside Crochet and it was one of those must-make-this-right-away makes. The colours of the original, the fluffiness of the alpaca, but most of all the shape - this is a tight fitting, sturdy cowl which stands up and covers ears with no danger of flopping down.<br />
<br />
A quick pop to the local yarn shop later, and I had some Ella Rae cozy alpaca<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0YG2a1LjEw8/WL3B2hT6n_I/AAAAAAAADuU/2_iE9XdDj9Iy_tS7MQBXfW-GhYeaSGvhgCKgB/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0YG2a1LjEw8/WL3B2hT6n_I/AAAAAAAADuU/2_iE9XdDj9Iy_tS7MQBXfW-GhYeaSGvhgCKgB/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The colours are natural, teal and grey. This is an oh so soft baby alpaca blend with actually a large proportion of acrylic but without a hint of squeakiness. So I set to and made myself a cowl</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nldoKmpKBnQ/WL3GY_6Ti2I/AAAAAAAADug/RQZT5GmTRkw8YKPSaWpg13oDGGmH65ihwCKgB/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="310" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nldoKmpKBnQ/WL3GY_6Ti2I/AAAAAAAADug/RQZT5GmTRkw8YKPSaWpg13oDGGmH65ihwCKgB/s400/image.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
Which I loved so much for its cosiness and ability to stay up around my ears that I decided to make one for my sister's birthday too<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CXeCVqJORzk/WL3GYwURLwI/AAAAAAAADug/nB64sBgaBn8S62EMjHzy5nXr75AqwQsnQCKgB/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CXeCVqJORzk/WL3GYwURLwI/AAAAAAAADug/nB64sBgaBn8S62EMjHzy5nXr75AqwQsnQCKgB/s400/image.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
Mr R recognised just how snug I was looking in mine on a particularly chilly walk to school sometime before Christmas and said that he would very much like one. But not in those colours. So, armed with more suitable charcoal Debbie Bliss cashmerino aran<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MrAP5yeDD3Q/WL3GY3g9oJI/AAAAAAAADug/pn1w7SsYrRoI0XiYsLgjFeOeghfduoOqgCKgB/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="365" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MrAP5yeDD3Q/WL3GY3g9oJI/AAAAAAAADug/pn1w7SsYrRoI0XiYsLgjFeOeghfduoOqgCKgB/s400/image.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
I made my third, manly version for Mr R's Christmas present. I still do love those original colours, so maybe there will be a fourth one sometime...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Because all coffee pots deserve to be cosy. Here are ours in their wintertime cosies</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-24X3NI4r3Gg/WLm5-ma5s9I/AAAAAAAADs4/uirEi37zlt0Y8YuI8fBZU3bXpqnlHVevACKgB/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-24X3NI4r3Gg/WLm5-ma5s9I/AAAAAAAADs4/uirEi37zlt0Y8YuI8fBZU3bXpqnlHVevACKgB/s640/image.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>
A pattern used before <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/mrsrobinsonknits/cafetiere-coffee-cosy">here</a> and <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/mrsrobinsonknits/cafetiere-coffee-cosy-2">here</a>. Oh, they look remarkably similar. The pattern is Cafetière Coffee Cosy from Jenny Lord's Purls of Wisdom. This is an easy pattern to adapt according to dimensions of coffee pot in need of cosying by changing the number of repeats. After the first cosy knitted I chose not to include the button loops, instead just poking the buttons through a gap in the stitches.<br />
<br />
The next is one made for the other Mrs Robinson as a Christmas gift - the other Mr Robinson isn't such a fan of coffee, so a mini coffee pot parcelled up with some delicious coffee seemed just the thing. Again, the wool is from the basket (so satisfying) and is Jamieson's Shetland Spindrift held double with sock yarn left over from making Em's socks<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UQcQdeL4e5k/WLm5-omUt7I/AAAAAAAADs4/0DMQLlTeBFYSrcDf7DoLkLjcfsbTd651ACKgB/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UQcQdeL4e5k/WLm5-omUt7I/AAAAAAAADs4/0DMQLlTeBFYSrcDf7DoLkLjcfsbTd651ACKgB/s400/image.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
And then I made some more because the teeny leftover balls of Spindrift had been in the basket for too long and because coffee pots also need more springlike cosies. I patiently explained to Mr R that it is perfectly reasonable to have seasonal cosies for our coffee pots. And a great reason to put pink buttons with that blue wool<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
