Start of the Easter holidays!

We have just over two weeks of Easter holidays in front of us... how lovely! Two lovely weeks of Patch at home, lazy mornings in pyjamas, doing just as we fancy. Patch is celebrating the start of the holidays by staying the night with Granny and Grandpa, while Mr R and I are covered in speckles of paint from decorating Patch's bedroom. Such fun! Hoping to get most of painting done by the time Patch comes home tomorrow, then Grandpa will help with/do the wallpapering. What a star.

Here are some pretty photographs of the yum thank you makes Patch took in to school this morn

Recipe from the rather lovely Hope and Greenwood.

Happy weekend!

Sandbox pants

Sandbox pants... that's the name of the Oliver & S pattern which I finally got around to sewing for Patch. That pattern has been sitting in a pile for a few years. A great, easy pattern. Unlike photographing them finished. Not easy. I wasn't sure what size Patch would need, and just going by measurements can result in disastrously large trousers, so I made these as a test from a twenty year old sarong. I'm afraid these are the best photographs, those tiny checks just refused to be photographed...

And now I've made them I'm hoping that they're not too golf-like and that maybe Patch can even wear these - what do you think? I've already started cutting out the next pair, in a more subdued lightweight denim...

Another blurry photograph, with Patch in them this time

Crochet flower brooch

A little kit included with the latest Mollie Makes. It suggests using the crochet flower as a shoe decoration (sweet idea but only enough wool for one flower and I didn't have any clippy things to attach with and I wanted to finish the make NOW!), sewing to a piece of ribbon as a bracelet (another sweet idea though not sure I would wear often) or the rather obvious brooch idea. Seeing as they kindly provided a brooch pin, my decision was made. Feeling rather springlike wearing my cheery flower today.

Craig has gone off on a sunny bike ride to Orford. But I've just realised he's made an awful mistake - it's Monday which means the Pump Street Bakery is closed! I can imagine his little legs (?) pedalling oh so quick as he thinks of the coffee and pastry waiting for him. Poor him.

I'm off to peg out the washing...

Sitting room curtains

So pleased they are made, finally. The triceratops can't quite believe it either.

And now the black unit inherited with the house, which the television sits on and a rather extensive collection of Charlie & Lola and Maisy DVDs are stuffed in, is looking more out of place. Skilfully not included in these photographs but right next to these pretty curtains. It is so useful though. I had suggested doors and a paint but it has been constructed with some odd angles which mean attaching doors could be tricky. So we have decided on a lick of paint and a cover-all-mess-make out of Great Aunt Ada's damask tablecloth. Don't expect the transformation any time soon though - these curtains have taken over a year.

Have a sunny weekend!

Lighting issues

How to take a good photograph of curtains? I know about trying to take into the light, but these are curtains. In front of a window. Shall try at various times of the day, hopefully some will be OK enough to show here.

I need you Linda!

Daddy's old shirt

An old red gingham shirt of Craig's was quickly rescued from the charity shop pile... those pearly snap buttons were just far too cool! I decided to salvage bits from the shirt to make Patch a cowboy shirt, mixed with some cowboy print.

Nicely ironed for the photograph.

This is a bit of a cheat make as I finished it almost a year ago, but found the photo of it today. Do so hope it fits Patch for a few more months. I mainly used Heather Ross' Kai's shirt pattern from Weekend Sewing. Because I wanted to use the original snap closures I had to change the pattern slightly for the button facings and collar - it would have been easier to have kept to the original pattern, but those pearly snaps! The back piece is made of the cowboy fabric. Yee-ha...

There is good reason for this lazy make today... I'll show you this week's big make tomorrow!

A tiny Pebble vest

A tiny Pebble vest knitted for a tiny premature baby. It's for the friends of a friends baby, and though I don't know them I so wanted to do something, just to let them know that I am thinking of them and can maybe understand a little of what they are going through. I would have been rather touched if someone we didn't know had done the same when Patch was born, so hoping they'll think ooooh...lovely, rather than ooooh...strange! The pattern is the Pebble vest by the Thrifty Knitter.

The Charlie & Lola-ish biscuits must have been yum because they have all been happily munched. Please remind me that there is a reason that that particular pink food colouring is usually kept for play dough making only. It is oh so bright. Neon. The photographs have managed to tame it...

And a curtain update - both are up. We have matching curtains! Oh my. Now I just need to take them down again to hem them. Still hopeful that they will be done by tomorrow... I'll let you know!

A birthday market skirt

No need for a ssh! Francesca hopefully has her market skirt by now. Now for those sitting room curtains! Though Patch has requested some Charlie & Lola biscuits for him and his little friend coming to play after school. No real food, just biscuits. Sadly they aren't veggie so thought could attempt to bake something similar. And it's off to school for lunch today as Mummy's are invited to a Mother's Day lunch. I think we shall have odd curtains for at least another day...
