Knitted shoes for teeny feet

Continuing the attempt to use up some of my wool pile I knitted two pairs of teeny shoes

The first are the sandals from Debbie Bliss' baby cashmerino booklet. Made to fit ages 3-12 months. Oh my, I'll be lucky if mine fit a Tiny Tears though it is now over five years since I cuddled Patch's newborn feet and his weren't the most typical. So maybe they would fit a newborn for a few weeks...

The pattern is constructed with far too many ends to sew in for my liking, and even the teensiest of buttons was a struggle to fit in the buttonhole so probably not a pattern I will knit again. However...

These were a dream to knit. This time the pattern is the Ruby Slippers from Hadley Fierlinger's Vintage Knits though mine are distinctly un-Ruby like as I had yet more of the green wool to use up. Only a small ball remains, not enough for even a baby knit though maybe a small crochet hexagon for a future blanket... These are the smaller size and the only change I made to the pattern was to use the length of the button band given for the larger size. Both shoes have buttons from Great Gran's button box.

So my plan is to gift these to one of the newborns due this Autumn with an older sister. If the first shoes are really too small then they can be a gift for older sister's doll...

My Charlie t is my favourite and my best...

Charlie and Lola are Patch's favourite and his best...

This is the second attempt at a Charlie t. Until washday this had Patch written on with some lovely Sukie iron-ons. Looked lovely but faded by about the second wash day. Anyone had any luck with them? So a search online found these letters from www.teetransfers.co.uk. Easy to use, let's hope they fare better in the wash.

Patch rather happy that he has his Charlie t once more. Oooo, and anyone any idea where to find similar raglan style long sleeve ts?

Sewing for me!

How exciting... I finally made the cabo halter, an Amy Butler pattern.

Interesting angle Mr R! Have had both pattern and fabric for an age... this voile fabric was purchased in C&H in lovely Winchester, and we've not lived near there for a long time.

I made a muslin first (certainly not a wearable one as used an old pillow case and it really does look like an old pillowcase) though top still a little baggy in places. This top closes with a zip but as I can put it on without opening the zip not sure why I bothered. The only change I made from the pattern was to use the longest length for the neck ties rather than the length suggested for the size I was making...

A quick make in lovely lightweight fabric, just right for some sun...

Popover sundress

A sunny day dress for Patch's friend, who is having a birthday garden party this afternoon. So hoping it stays sunny!

Have just noticed those horrible looking holes on the door.

The popover sundress is a free pattern to download from Oliver & S and is lovely and simple. Laura - the birthday girl - likes pink so I found other bits from my fabric pile that went with the pink. The blue is a soft chambray type fabric with shop bought navy binding. I realised that I've used a patterned fabric for the main body on previous popovers with either a contrast or plain yoke, and maybe I prefer that. This is the largest size I've made yet though the size of the yoke stays the same, and there just seems to be a lot of blue. Mr R suggested a pocket... Also, I've made the binding before with the same fabric as the yoke, and the homemade is so much softer. But still, a sweet summer dress!

Happy birthday Laura...

celebratory heart potholder

So excited... our friends have got engaged! I just had to knit them a potholder because surely that's what everyone wants as an engagement present?

The dishcloth pattern can be found at designs-by-emily.com. I added some red felt and wadding to make it into an oh so useful potholder. Congratulations Lou and Rach!

And Patch a happy boy - his wheelbarrow was the best dressed in the village... well done P!

Jubilee celebrations

Getting ready for the village jubilee celebrations... bring along a pud

and the decorate a wheelbarrow competition

Patch was keen to do the paper chains but not the tissue paper flowers. So they were left to me, and I think Martha would be proud.

Oh and of course some celebratory crochet brooches!

I used a pattern form the lovely www.pickles.no

Now we just hope the rain will stay away long enough for us to bicycle to the village hall...

More long pom pom cowls...

I think I am safe showing these... stop reading now Sarah and Bea if you haven't unwrapped your presents yet!

Hope you both had jolly birthdays... I really must make a start on my own long pom pom cowl. Again, there are to be no pom poms but a crochet trim instead I think.

And some freshly made jubilee cupcakes for the school cake sale this rainy afternoon
